I will never forget the first time I heard Blue Scholars, at least I wont ever forget the patch of my life that our paths first crossed. For us Pacific Northwesterners, the Blue Scholars are like crack, their beats and rhymes are soaked in the perpetual grayness and rain that we all endure for so long. Since I moved to the East Coast I find myself slipping back into my Blue Scholar mood where I just veg out and let them take me back home for a few minutes or a few hours. Nothing that they put out will ever match the beauty of their first album, but they do have some interesting new stuff out. Dj Sabzi is one of my favorite producers of our generation, he brings together so many disparate styles and influences and does it in such a seamless way. Geo is hit or miss for me, he is undeniably an incredible wordsmith and poet, just sometimes he doesn't do it for me. Their oeuvre is impressive though, and ever expanding, they have created a sound out of seemingly nothing and in doing so have put the Northwest on their backs. Here is a random collection of their songs, take a trip back to the PNW with me...
The song that made me fall in love, and that takes me back to my home ... it's genius
